As a IT Specialist (Entarch/Infosec) you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Serving as a Senior Network Architect within the Architecture Standards and Auditing (ASA) Branch within DoDEA IT Managing the development of policies and procedures for securing the organizational enterprise network system to prevent and defend against vulnerabilities and unauthorized accessManaging security standards for DoDEA network architecture, which includes, but is not limited to, Intrusion Detection Devices (IDD), firewalls, routers, layer 2/switching devises, wired and wireless infrastructure devices, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), wireless architecture, and VPN devicesReviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and DoD mandates on a continuing basis to identify potential refinements based on lessons-learned to better accommodate the network's evolving design and business processesServing as a senior network advisor to DoDEA management to ensure technology standards are expressed clearly and ensure that standards are implemented consistently throughout the DoDEA enterprise networkPerforming network assessments and security auditsParticipating in the administration and maintenance of remote monitoring and management systems, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard and perform periodic system reviewsApplying new theories, concepts, or developments to communications problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, technology, or proceduresMaking decisions and/or recommendations to change, interpret, or develop policies or programs in the best interest of DoDEAProviding guidance to DoDEA IT personnel to proactively diagnose and resolve reported information systems issuesEnsuring monitoring and notification services are used on all mission essential information systems defined by DoDEA managementProving training, consultation, and technical support services to subordinate workforce on subjects such as system architecture and capabilities, system power capabilities, standards and procedures, end-user computer system compliance for automated systems, risk assessment, configuration management and capacity planning

Temporary Duty (TDY) travel is required approximately 10% of the time requiring the employee to travel away from the normal duty station.

Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) clearance eligibility.

Duties of the position may/will require shifted work hours based on operational or mission requirements. Permanent change of shift may/will be at the determination of the second level supervision. The incumbent may also be on an "on-call" status on a rotational basis.

Call back and emergency duty are regular requirements of this position.

May be required to carry a Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) cellular device.

Specialized Experience for GS-7 (or equivalent) and Above: Positions at GS-7 (or equivalent) and above require one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled.

You must have one year Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service(experience may have been gained in the private/military sector), giving the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Experience must be reflected in your resume.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program Instruction (DoD 8140). Applicants must possess upon entry IASAE Level II and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).

Incumbent must possess or obtain industry recognized certifications in one or more senior disciplines of network architecture, systems architecture, solutions architecture. Certification examples are (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) CCIE, (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) MCSE.

*Failure to meet or exceed the Required Items for employment above will immediately place the employee into a Personnel Improvement Plan (PIP) status. PIP status will only be maintained for a period of 180 days. The employee may be removed from the position after that time. *

Specialized experience required for this position is:

  • Engineering, designing and overseeing the implementation of technologies to ensure network infrastructure, and any related network systems and devices are secure, reliable and accessible
  • Managing security standards for network architecture, i.e., Intrusion Detection Devices (IDD), firewalls, routers, layer 2/switching devises, wired and wireless infrastructure devices, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), wireless architecture, and VPN devices
  • Participating in the administration and maintenance of remote monitoring and management systems, respond to alerts, monitor dashboard and perform periodic system reviews
  • Leveraging knowledge of specialized communications hardware, software, and operational processes in order to make decisions that significantly change the operations and infrastructure
  • Providing guidance to IT personnel to proactively diagnose and resolve reported information systems issues
