GI Pathologist AmeriPath is a leading national provider of anatomic pathology, molecular diagnostic and healthcare information services for the detection, diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of cancer and other medical conditions with over 400 board-certified pathologists and scientists providing services to physicians, hospitals, clinical laboratories and ambulatory surgery centers across the United States. Reporting to the Director of Anatomic Pathology Services and GI Diagnostics, this position is at the Staff Pathologist level to ensure the continuous business growth of GI pathology services in Metro Atlanta and Southeast Region. The ideal candidate will possess superior diagnostic ability, excellent interpersonal communication skills, exceptional clinical judgment, and the ability to work as a team member. The candidate will assume responsibilities as delegated by the Director, and be accountable for meeting established quality and productivity measures. This position also requires interaction with clients to provide clinical and pathological consultations. Regular participation in quality control, quality assurance, compliance, marketing and staff education are also required. Key Accountabilities: Assume Clinical Consultant or Technical Supervisor responsibilities at AmeriPath Georgia as delegated by the "Laboratory Director Responsibilities" Policy: Reads and interprets results accurately and in a timely manner. Routinely communicates with supervisors/managers and technical staff. Available to customers, client services and staff for client consultations. Collection of medical information required for interpretations. Case follow-up, documentation and database management Resolves problems through interaction with clients via appropriate means of communication. Insures ethical and legal compliance regarding testing and confidentiality. Serves as a resource and participates in the development of educational materials for staff. Actively participates in the Gastrointestinal Pathology Conference meetings. Provides support for R & D to validate and learn newly developed assays. Education of staff and community as directed. Lab Management * Utilizing histology laboratory procedures, diagnoses from biopsy specimens for the presence and stage of diseases. Reviews, interprets, documents and approves diagnoses within established turnaround times * Honors requests for consultations from clinicians regarding the usefulness, appropriateness and interpretation of laboratory tests. Due to the importance and requirement of outstanding patient care, servicing consultation requests of all types is considered imperative * Interacts with internal services (Client Services, Histology Staff, Operations, Sales and Marketing) and external clients to facilitate and foster increased transfer of information related to quality patient care. Works closely with Sales staff throughout AmeriPath/Quest Diagnostics to provide appropriate medical support as required. * Attendance at National meetings in areas of assigned expertise to maintain/build knowledge and to provide representation for AmeriPath/Quest Diagnostics. * Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Requirements: * MD with AP Certification.
