Position Title: Building Trades Specialist Position Type:Staff Department: Building Maintenance Salary: $17.14/hrly (minimum) - $22.38/hrly (midpoint) Nature of Work: Reporting to the Carpenter Superintendent, this is an advanced level position for skilled trades professionals. A Building Trades Specialist performs skilled trades work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of building structures and facilities following recognized procedures and techniques of the building construction trade and using hand and power tools. This position will perform building construction work including but not limited to carpentry, roofing, flooring, drywall, painting, masonry, framing, and the like for a range of building types including institutional, commercial, and residential buildings. The person in this position must manage procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations; assist the Superintendent and Foreman in coordinating the work of the trades shop for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and is an essential staff member for university emergency response. Required Qualifications: Education and Training - Minimum of High school diploma or GED is required, plus 6 (six) years or more of experience in the residential and commercial building construction trades field, Or combination of 2 (two) years Vocational Trades training and 4 (four) years of field experience in the building construction trades. Must be available for on-call status and must be available as needed to work nights or weekends to service emergency needs of our customers or campus special events. A pre-employment drug screen required. A valid driver�s license required. Must have a practical knowledge of the International Building Code, ADA code, NFPA code. Must have a practical knowledge of industrial, commercial, and residential building construction means and methods of repair and service. Must be skilled in performing technical tasks with an eye for detail, skilled in adapting to meet changing job conditions, roofing, flooring, drywall; planning and managing work orders; preparing and maintaining accurate records; proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and written work instructions; proficient in understanding and complying with safety regulations and handling hazardous materials in the performance of job duties (i.e. OSHA and EPA).
