YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE

Your primary function is to work with the database service provider and Delta's application teams to ensure a stable and highly available/performant mainframe database environment

You'll work with the service provider to maximize database availability and performance to meet or exceed defined SLA's

Assist the service provider as needed in investigating, troubleshooting and resolving database incidents/problems with in the established SLA

Independently verifies Delta's service provider incident and root cause analysis

Provide tier 3 level on call support for the DB2/z and IMS/z database environments

Identify opportunities for performance improvements, process improvements and cost reductions

Consult with IT personnel to resolve mainframe database related questions and/or concerns

Provide knowledge and recommendations on database performance and SQL tuning, security, backup/recovery, and more

Define IT / DBA policies and procedures for service provider

Interface with IBM technical resources to resolve operational issues or questions

Maintain information and currency of content in the DBA SharePoint for IMS and DB2/z

Provide monthly incident summary information for consumption by service provider and others

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? / WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU NEED?

At least 5 years' experience administering IMS/z version 13 or 14 databases in an enterprise environment

Strong experience with IMS logical relationships, HDAM performance and tuning, sparse indexes, DBRC (especially block-level sharing) and IMS-Plex. BN Interface knowledge helpful

At least 3 Years' experience administering DB2/z version 10, 11 or 12 databases in an enterprise environment

Proven track record of administering databases in a challenging enterprise environment

Strong experience with leading major database projects, including setting direction and identifying & implementing project tasks

Strong experience with DB2/z and IMS/z support tools and processes including BMC, Insight, FileAid, Vision Inquiry, DAT, IBM DB2 Tools, Query Monitor

Strong experience with evaluating DB2 and IMS performance issues (including SQL Performance) and recommending improvements

Strong experience with troubleshooting, resolving and documenting database issues

Strong understanding of logical database design (i.e., third normal form) and ability to translate logical design to physical design

Experience in writing and updating REXX routines

Knowledge of COBOL, QuickJob, SAS, Assembler and ISPF Dialog Components

Familiarity with DB2/z database replication tools

Experience and ability to provide tier 2 / 3 database support/coverage environment

The ability to work with, and provide direction to, the database service provider

The ability to provide technical direction to others, including application developers

The ability to set strategic direction and identify tasks to implement the solution

The ability and willingness to follow established IT / DBA policies and procedures
