Director, Communications

What You’ll Do:

Strategic Leadership/Tactical Execution:

  • Provides leadership and mentorship to the marketing team to effectively implement strategies

  • Manages multiple priorities simultaneously; maintain a flexible work schedule to meet various demands for multiple concurrent projects

  • Evaluate emerging technologies. Provide thought leadership and perspective for adoption where appropriate

  • Understand the Food Bank's strategic objectives and critical success factors to determine the best marketing solutions


  • Creates and maintains the communications project roadmap, as well as, oversight of marketing project lists and key deliverables for initiatives across teams

  • Assists in developing the internal and PR communications plan, tactics, and resources to achieve organizational goals

  • Develops a best-in-class communications platform to successfully communicate with internal partners and partner agencies

  • Deeply collaborates in the “story telling” process by cultivating story leads

  • Ultimately oversees and guides the execution/production and process implementation for all creative design deliverables; displays leadership and collaboration with the Marketing Manager in shaping the engagement process for our in-house creative team

  • Researches, writes, and edits content for our executives that demonstrates a deep understanding of their leadership style, our agenda, and Mission, Vision, and Values for use across various internal and external channels, including emails, speeches, collateral and presentations

Public Relations/Media Relations:

  • Represents the organization internally and externally and convey a professional and positive image of the organization and its affiliated organizations. Crisis communication experience and training a plus and preferred

  • Collaborates and manages agencies and other vendor partners

  • Oversees the Marketing Manager’s execution of social/digital marketing campaigns, develops success metrics and monitors/reports results

  • Oversees the Marketing Manager’s work with publication production and reviews, and partners with teammates to ensure messaging is integrated, creative, and consistent

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, child care centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 600 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:

As the Director of Communications, you will assume the leadership role in managing the Marketing Department and report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer. Your key focus areas include: internal communications, traditional marketing, public relations, graphic design management and digital/social media marketing.

The Food Bank is looking for someone who has the ability to drive execution and the willingness to roll-up their sleeves to work with a small team to get things done.


What You’ll Need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Communications is required

  • A Masters in Communications, Marketing or an MBA is also highly preferred


  • 10+ years' experience in internal communications, traditional marketing, public relations, graphic design management, executive writing, digital/social media.

  • Must have previous management experience; must be able to demonstrate experience developing team members

  • Must be able to demonstrate experience with professional verbal communications skills and exceptional written and oral presentation skills

  • Must have advanced working knowledge of all Office products – Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Email Communications Platforms, Adobe Creative Suite

Even Better if You Have:

  • Graphic design/ad agency management experience is a plus.
