The EHS & Safety Manager is located at C. R. Bard, Medical Division in Covington, GA.

Responsible for the development and administration of the BARD Global EHS Management System, Facilities, Operations and Security Managaement Systems for the Georgia facilities to ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and country regulations as well as corporate requirements. Additionally, responsible for completing project reviews for capital projects, new product development, process changes, and equipment changes.

Conducts technical reviews and determines impacts for process changes, capital projects, new product development, and equipment modifications for facilities and operations. Supports division on high risk operations, disaster recovery, proactively and effectively supports the acquisition and decommissioning of facilities for the BMD Division.

As needed, fulfills the role of inside project manager, ensuring project goals are met within time frame and budget allotted and oversees construction project activity. Works as liaison with BARD divisions and corporate.

Conducts/Leads process safety hazard analysis/hazard and operability studies (PHA/HAZOP) for applicable processes and any future process changes. Responsible to ensure compliance to all OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulations for BARD facility programs. Additionally conducts hazard reviews for all process controls, projects, and any process changes for the BMD Division and as required for other BARD divisions.

Leads a proactive individual based safety program, identifies and establishes leading indicator safety goals for Division facilities and develops programs to promote a strong safety culture in alignment with Bard’s Global EHS Safety Compliance, Management & Performance Improvement activities.

Responsible for overall site security for the Covington and Madison campuses to include C-TPAT compliance, Workplace Violence System, site security guards (contract or employees), and life safety system compliance.

Acts as liaison with local emergency response including police, fire, or other emergency services.

Maintains the Division EHS scorecard, hosts division quarterly review meetings, and measures and monitors plant performance toward their assigned EHS and project goals reporting results to Sr. /Executive Management each quarter.

Serves as the Bard incident tracking & management system super user for BMD Division plants and assists other Divisions as needed.

Assists corporate EHS with developing corporate EHS standards and with auditing BARD locations. Conducts detailed incident analysis and investigation for all HIPO / Severe incidents and provides relevant bulletins/communications to division as needed.

Keeps up to date on all current and pending environmental, health and safety legislation and regulations as well as BARD insurance company requirements. Identifies all applicable regulations (Corporate, Country, Federal, State, and Local) and ensures facilities have procedures and programs in place to adhere to these regulatory requirements.

  • Proficient in OSHA, EPA Regulations, Building Codes, experience preparing and submitting environmental permits and forms

  • Proficient and experienced conducting EHS audits

  • Proficient and experienced in developing and implementing EHS management systems

  • Must have strong organizational, communication, and influencing skills, ability to maintain accurate and detail records.

  • Analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills

  • Must have strong business acumen

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:

  • Displays the desire and demonstrates the potential to increase responsibilities in EHS as BARD continues to grow as an organization

  • Become a Qualified BARD EHS Lead Auditor within 1-2 years

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions in Basic English and write short correspondence / memos. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, internal customers and other employees within the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as geometry, trigonometry, exponents, etc. Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as facility design, process line location and layout.

REASONING ABILITY:

Position requires good logic and reasoning ability. Ability to define problems and find logical solutions. Ability to interpret specifications and technical instructions. In summary, position requires a high degree of logical analyzing. Errors in the facility or process design bring heavy liability and financial burden to the Company. Errors in safety equipment could bring loss of life.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or science related field required, 10-15 years overall experience.

  • Experience leading PHAs and/or HAZOPs and conducting EHS Project Reviews

  • CSP, CIH, or CHMM Certification Preferred
